Location

• San Siro is a small stretch of lakeside, approximately halfway between Menaggio (the fulcrum of the western branch) and Dongo, the gateway to the northern end of the Lake. The atmosphere in San Siro is calm, even when the local beach, about 1.5 kilometres from the apartment, is full of windsurfers, water skiers, kite-surfers and sailors (you can join in water sports on the Lake here). Alternatively, you can explore the mid-lake villages of Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna; the grand villas Tremezzo and Balbianello, or the area capital, Como. Excursions further afield include daytrips to Milan and St Moritz.

Location

• The apartment, only three minutes’ drive away from a ferry point and the lakeside road, is in Colonno, a small village located on an extremely appealing and interesting stretch of the western branch. Convenient local attractions include the museum villas Balbianello and Carlotta: the lively village of Argegno, about two kilometres away, with its little beach and cable car ride, the historic old centre of Como and the mid-lake towns of Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna – centres for adventure sports, shopping and sightseeing. Colonno is also one end of a signposted 10 kilometre walk – the Greenway – which can be broken down into smaller sections. Further afield, sophisticated Milan, St Moritz (by train) and historic Bergamo can all be reached on day trips. In addition, for fans of watersports; sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and a variety of other water-based activities are available all around the Lake, with the highest concentration at the northern end.

Location

• Argegno is a picturesque and sociable village, situated between the busy sightseeing town of Como and the lovely tourist attractions of the western branch (including the historic villas Carlotta and Balbianello) and the mid-Lake triangle of Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna – all of which are easily reached by car, bus or ferry boat.
• Its position in a ‘dog-leg’ provides visitors with a small but charming triangular ‘piazza’ with bars, cafes and restaurants and little shops plus some of the most splendid views, up and down and across the water, available anywhere at the Lake. There is also a shingle beach, small port and Lakeside pizzeria.
• The village is the gateway to the Val D’ Intelvi – ideal for walkers in the summer – and is just half an hour from skiing facilities in the winter. You can also make longer day trips to Milan and St. Moritz.

• Cadenabbia and Griante are two parts of the same place – Cadenabbia on the Lake front and Griante about 50 metres back. Cadenabbia is a short drive from the mid-Lake town of Menaggio and short ferry ride to Bellagio and Varenna, the three main sightseeing locations at Lake Como. On the slopes behind Griante is the church of San Martino, in a spectacular location, and just over the road from the ferry point is a lovely Anglican church.
