Newly refurbished, this luxurious two bedroom apartment has been tastefully decorated and is located in one the most desirable residential parts of Lake Como (close to Laglio, the location of George Clooney’s Villa Oleandra). At the same time, it’s convenient for visiting the popular western branch, from Como’s old town to the water-sports centres at the Northern end of the Lake, as well as the popular mid-lake triangle of Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna. And for longer day trips, Milan, Lugano and St Moritz are within easy reach.
The apartment itself provides wonderful Lake views from all of its rooms. Although it sleeps 4 adults it also has a fun third bedroom with bunk beds if you have kids making it ideal for a family of six.

Facilities
 

• The accommodation is arranged over two floors. The living room, an adjacent ‘Look Out’, one double bedroom with en suite and one twin bedroom (the ‘cantina’, a converted wine cellar) are situated on the first floor. The ‘dining kitchen’, master bedroom, bathroom and private garden and terrace with barbecue area are located below, at ground level. The fact that it’s necessary to use quotation marks to describe some of the features shows that this is no ordinary property.
• The elegant first floor living room, mostly white with touches of light and dark grey, has a beautiful antique floor, flat screen satellite TV, CD and DVD players and lounge seating for six. It’s complemented by a ‘Look Out’, a charming and unusual special feature with windows all round and soft furnishing. From both the living room and the Look Out you can enjoy relaxing views of the Lake and mountains.
• The other main indoor communal space is the brand new, spacious ‘dining kitchen’ on the ground floor; with dining seating for at least six (eight at a pinch), range cooker, combination microwave oven, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, kettle and toaster and some soft furnishing. This room is the main entrance to the villa and its windows fold back to give access to the private garden and terrace, with fantastic views of the Lake. In addition a structural glass balustrade frames beautiful stone steps leading up to the ‘cantina’.
• The private garden and first of two terraces are reached through a ‘controlled entry’ wrought iron gate, and garden path. Then, another short flight of stairs takes you to the second terrace, with its barbecue, stone table (for al fresco dining), shady, vine covered iron gazebo and garden furniture for sunbathing.
• The ‘master bedroom’ on the ground floor, is bright and airy, with a lovely original timber floor and walls painted ‘harbour’ blue. The second bedroom, on the first floor, is decorated in neutral colours and has an en suite bathroom. The third fun sized bedroom (the cantina) is the smallest of all and also on the first floor. A small, converted wine cellar, it has a vaulted ceiling and porthole window with views to the lake and the mountains. This room is decorated and furnished with kids in mind. A fun room (sleeping two) that kids – and big kids – will love. It has a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and bunk beds.
• The master bedroom contains a wardrobe, chair, chest of drawers and bedside cabinets and a ‘zip and link’ unit that can be made up as either one king size bed or two large singles. The second bedroom, entered through double doors, is furnished in almost the same way, but with a shoe cabinet instead of a chair, while the ‘cantina’ is decorated and furnished with kids in mind, including a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bunk beds. All three bedrooms provide views over the Lake.
• The large main bathroom is decorated with white tiles to shoulder height and ‘Harbour Blue’ paint, echoing the main bedroom, above that. It has an oversized, walk in shower, WC and bidet. The window above the sink both lets in lots of natural light, for shaving and / or applying make- up, and provides views of the Lake. The second bathroom is an en suite shower room for the second bedroom, containing a very large shower as well as a sink, WC and bidet. This room is the only one without Lake views but its fan shaped window at least provides lots of natural light.
• The ground and first floors are connected both by an old timber staircase (said to include a ‘secret stair for children’s treats’) up to the Look Out and by a beautiful set of stone steps leading to the ‘cantina’.
• An iron, hairdryer, bed linen and towels are provided and a highchair is available

Location

• Carate Urio is situated on the exclusive lower western side of the Lake, which has long been the weekend retreat for rich Milanese as well as a holiday getaway for superstars such as George Clooney, whose Villa Oleandra can be found in the neighbouring village of Laglio. Small bars and restaurants are the norm but there is a supermarket ten minutes away by car.
• Convenient for sightseeing in Como town, Cernobbio, Argegno, Lenno (Villa Balbionello), Tremezzo (Villa Carlotta) and the mid Lake triangle of Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna. Day trips can also be made to Milan, Lugano and St Moritz. A wide range of water-sports is available at the northern end of the Lake.
