Lake Como weather

The weather at Lake Como can be summed up as providing lots of seasonal variety, without ever going to extremes.

High summer – June, July and August

June, July and August are the hottest months of the year. But although the sun shines for roughly nine hours per day, the heat is not unbearable. Air temperatures peak at around 30C, water temperatures reach 25C and there are mild but steady breezes. This makes the weather equally favourable for  sightseeing; sunbathing and swimming; water sports and adventure pursuits. In the evening the temperature can fall to 15C, requiring a lightweight ‘top’. July tends to be driest month of the year.

Early and late summer – May and September

These months have similar temperatures, reaching a daytime maximum level of around 25C and a minimum of about 9C in the evening. The sun shines for about six hours a day. If you can schedule your time off for these months, you can enjoy weather that is just about perfectly warm and activities and attractions that are still open but less crowded than in peak months. May is often the rainiest month of the year, but showers are both intermittent and short lived.

October

The sun can still shine for five hours a day in October but maximum temperatures slip to 20C and minimum to 4C and it can be a rainy month. This is a time for visitors who prefer mild peace and quiet to hot weather.

Spring – March and April

With up to five hours of sunshine a day and temperatures ranging from a maximum of 13 – 18C to a minimum of 1 – 3C, these months are targeted by many visitors because the gardens of many villas around the Lake burst into bloom at this time of the year.

Winter – November to February

Considering how close it is to the Alps, winters at Lake Como are relatively mild, with temperatures ranging from 5C to 12C in December. Unfortunately this makes it too mild for skiing in the surrounding mountains.
